Senior Design Engineer

Job Purpose

To evaluate and understand project and product design requirements and provide effective mentoring of all CAD Engineers.  Seek to analyse existing designs with a view to increase efficiency or improve performance.  Develop the drawing facilities within the Company.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create structured design packs consisting of manufacture drawings, assembly drawings, layout drawings, bills of materials and other relevant documents
  • Generate solid models and engineering drawings from information supplied by project engineers and managers
  • Interpret customers design requirements, tackle engineering problems arising from designs ensuring solutions are implemented
  • Technically assist manufacturing, sales, procurement and project departments within the Company as well as customers and suppliers
  • Participate in design reviews, revisions and contribute to production planning and meetings
  • Understand how relevant components, parts and instrumentation work and how these items should be installed and maintained
  • Have a good understanding of the design, function and build process of the process equipment and products built by the Company
  • Delegate segments of a design pack to others and orchestrate how the different segments come together to make the design pack work
  • Be responsible for CAD Engineer in a mentoring role to include guidance and development of the post holder
  • Develop and further extend proficient computer and application skills to include technical knowledge of computer assisted design (CAD) software
  • Carry out site surveys as required
  • Test, collect and analyse data from tests on designs; modifying designs and retesting

Essential:

  • Possess GCSE Grade C or above in English and Maths or an equivalent
  • CAD training course
  • Relevant experience
  • Have a good knowledge of material properties
  • Have innovative problem solving skills, creativity, proficiency and an ability to work in a team
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Good planning, administrative and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage a number of tasks concurrently and meet deadlines
  • Be hard working and conscientious
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Ability to work on own initiative, be self-motivated and work as part of a team without constant supervision
  • Proficient in the use of CAD
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good ICT skills, including use of MS package
  • Understanding of relevant health and safety legislation
  • Hold a valid driving licence

Desirable:

  • Specific Autodesk Inventor experience
  • Formal qualification in mechanical engineering
  • Previous experience of working within food, drink and allied sectors
  • Willingness to continue personal development
