State-of-the-art CIP system installed at Arla Foods UK, Lockerbie
Sycamore Process Engineering was hired to design, manufacture, install and commission a replacement CIP system for raw milk cleaning applications.
The existing CIP system at Arla foods was installed more than 45 years ago and after many successful years of service, it was in need of an upgrade – enter Sycamore!
“Communication from the beginning of the project right through to completion and analysis was excellent and constant. All questions were answered promptly. Any changes or modifications to meet customer requirements were met with no issues.“
Sean Redpath PTD Manager, Arla Foods UK
Replacing a complex CIP system like this is a significant investment for any dairy, so Arla needed to be sure they were choosing the right supplier for the project. Sycamore stood out as CIP experts, understood the latest requirements and were able to offer the system at a competitive price. This, coupled with the success Sycamore has seen at other Arla sites meant we were the ones for the job.The new CIP system is used for the cleaning of raw milk tankers for Arla and third-party deliveries to site. The system will be in constant use carrying out up to 25 cleans a day for one of the largest cheese processing facilities in the UK.
Design and Manufacture
With extensive experience in designing and manufacturing CIP systems, the design team set to work creating detailed P&IDs before producing 3D drawings. This particular system included the latest technology to ensure correct flowrates, to reduce water and detergent consumption with the objective of maximising efficiencies, reducing run times and maintenance costs. The process vessels, access platform and hygienic pipework were all designed and manufactured in-house by our dedicated team of specialists to the latest codes of practice and standards at our headquarters in Sparkford, Somerset.
Installation and Commissioning
The project was executed in accordance with Arla Foods strict guidelines and food standard specifications, all within the given time frames for the project. Initial feedback from site indicated that the new system would be far easier to maintain; the control system a lot simpler for engineers to work with and auditing clearer and better understood in terms of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPMs) and calibrations due to the comprehensive manuals provided.
Sycamore continues to deliver Engineering Peace of Mind.
